Hercules Jackup Rig Has Well Control Incident in Gulf of Mexico

Hercules Offshore has announced that jackup drilling rig #265 has experienced a well control incident. A blowout. 

All personnel have been evacuated, and efforts are ongoing to regain control of the natural gas well. 

The rig is currently operating for Walter Oil & Gas Corporation in the Gulf of Mexico. According to Hercules, all necessary government authorities have been notified of the incident. 

President and CEO, John T. Rynd stated that, "Our first and foremost concern is for the safety of all personnel aboard our drilling rig and we have taken every necessary precaution to safely evacuate the rig. Furthermore, efforts are ongoing with our client, Walter Oil & Gas, to mobilize the necessary resources to regain control of the well and minimize any potential impact to the environment."
