A Texas City woman has filed a lawsuit against a Hitchcock man after a car accident that the woman claims was caused by inattention and distracted driving. The Texas personal injury lawsuit was filed in Galveston County this week, though the automobile accident took place last fall.
According to the Southeast Texas Record, Belinda Caldwell was driving on Texas Avenue when Roberto Vela was on 28th Street, attempting to turn onto the road. Vela allegedly turned in front of Caldwell without looking at approaching traffic. Caldwell’s vehicle was damaged and she was injured in the crash.
Caldwell is seeking $80,000 in damages, claiming that Vela was driving with a suspended license, failed to avoid a collision, failed to control the speed of his vehicle, and failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
Sadly, distracted driving and driver inattention is one of the most common causes of Texas car accidents. It is important to note that drivers can be inattentive or distracted, even if they are not using a cell phone or otherwise occupied.
