According to the Southeast Texas Record, 52-year-old Santos Granja of Beaumont was among a group of Texas Department of Transportation road workers installing reflectors on Highway 73 last summer. Suddenly, the road crew was struck by an approaching commercial 18-wheeler, driven by Sergio Munguia and owned by Best Transportation Services. The big rig hit three vehicles, including two trucks that were driving behind the vehicle Granja was working. While the truck driver did not suffer serious injury, four TxDOT employees were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Texas worker accident trial is expected to begin next week, with both sides presenting different accident reconstructions. Evidence for the case includes the truck's black box event recorder, the trucker's driving logs, and pictures of the accident scene.
