Famous Retired Bagpiper Dead In Retirement Home Fire

In Canada, famous bag-piper Darby McCarrol died in his home at Smokey Hollow Estates, a retirement community. The death was the first fire-related fatality in the County of Brant in Ten Years. McCarrol was an accomplished piper known across Canada and the United States.

McCarrol, on the evening of the fire, had saved his dog but sadly could not save himself. He was overcome by smoke and is believed to have choked to death from carbon monoxide.

After an investigation, the fire was ruled an accident, caused by the “improper disposal of smoking materials.” Though according to officials, they cannot identify if it is cigarettes beyond a reasonable doubt for the fire.

Even if investigators found cigarettes on the scene, they have to be 100% certain that the individual was smoking them at the time of the cause of the incident. One of McCarrol’s neighbors had said that he was a smoker.

The fire caused $100,000 in damage.
