Could maritime employer budget cuts put YOUR life at risk?

It is no secret that the economy has not been kind to businesses around the world, and nowhere is this more true than in the maritime industry.  Shipping companies, oil companies, commercial fishing operations – most every kind of seafaring company you can think of is having a tough time right now.

While some belt tightening is expected in these lean times, there is always a danger that companies will go too far.  If employers respond to budget cuts by slashing workers to the point that vessels are understaffed, or if they cut back on safety or security measures, seamen can be injured or killed as a result.

If you suspect that you were hurt on the job because your employer failed to properly protect your safety, whether because of budget cuts or some other reason, then you need to take action.  Make sure that you know your rights so you can protect them – this is something that an experienced maritime attorney can help you with.
