Travel Plaza Transportation LLC, a tour bus company, has settled a lawsuit filed by a bicycle rider who was struck by one of the company's buses. This bus accident happened in Hawaii. The bicyclist was hit from behind by the bus and thrown 90 feet, and sustained injuries including paraplegia.
There have been a lot of publicly reported problems with tour bus companies, including the
Sherman bus crash incident. Tour bus companies need to understand that they must follow the same safety rules as other bus companies and commercial carriers. Many of these safety rules are contained in the
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations that apply to bus operators. The amount of this settlement is confidential, however, it is obvious from information surrounding the settlement that a huge sum of money was paid. Hopefully large financial pay outs like this will serve as a motivation for some tour bus operators to become more safety conscious.
