On Sunday, an Amtrak train collided with a truck at a crossing near Austin, TX.
The accident occurred near the intersection U.S 79 and Highway 130, west of downtown Hutton. A 44-year-old truck driver from San Antonio was driving a company box truck, carrying a small car with no passengers, when it crossed the tracks despite the train blowing its whistle.
For several hundred yards, the train kept going, crushing the truck and ejecting the driver in the process. Apparently, several passengers did not even feel the crash and thought it was just merely a speed bump.
Following the accident, passengers were taken to a nearby church to wait for alternative transportation. Buses were taking them to Fort Worth to continue their journey on the tracks.
The train held 211 passengers and a crew of 14. In total, two passengers received injuries but refused treatment. The driver of the truck is in critical condition at Seton Medical Center Williamson in nearby Round Rock.
Debris from the wreckage was cleared fairly swiftly.
