A Donna, Texas, man is suing a beverage company after he allegedly suffered a stroke after drinking two cans of Four Loko, a controversial drink that mixes high concentrations of alcohol with caffeine.
The dangerous and defective product lawsuit states that Texan Robert Villa purchased and drank two cans of Four Loko from a convenience store last year. After drinking the beverages, the man felt the right side of his body go numb and lost consciousness. The next day, he suffered from a number of other health problems, prompting him to go to the emergency room. There, he discovered he had suffered a stroke.
Four Loko was effectively banned by the FDA not soon after the incident – after research revealed that the combination of alcohol and large amounts of caffeine caused extremely dangerous situations, injuries, and deaths. Two wrongful death lawsuits have already been filed against the company, one regarding a man who was killed in a traffic accident after imbibing the drink and one who shot himself after drinking the beverage.
In Villa’s products liability case, he is seeking $75,000 in damages. He believes that the drink company, Phusion Projects, did not properly warn consumers about the danger of the drink. Currently, less alcoholic versions of the drink that do not contain caffeine are still for sale in many states around the country.
